KINDS OF CO-ORDINATE CONJUNCTIONS


Co-ordinate conjunctions are of four kinds:-
  1. Cumulative conjunctions
  2. Alternative conjunctions
  3. Adversative conjunctions
  4. Illative conjunctions

  1. CUMULATIVE CONJUNCTIONS
Observe the following sentences:-
  1. Jack came in and john went out.
  2. He plays football as well as hockey.
  3. He is rich and generous too.
Each conjunction in bold letters join one statement to another with a sense of addition or cumulative.  So, it is a cumulative conjunction.
  1. ALTERNTIVE CONJUNCTIONS
Observe the following sentences:-
  1. Walk fast or you will miss the train.
  2. She must work hard, else she will fail.
  3. Either he is really mad or he just pretends to be med.
Each conjunction in bold letters join two statements expressing an  alternative.  So, it is an alternative-conjunction.
 
  1. ADVERSATIVE CONJUNCTIONS
                    Observe the following sentences:-
  1. He is brilliant but his brother is dill.
  2. His poor yet he is honest.
  3. The good are blessed while the bad have to suffer.
Each conjunction in bold letters joins two statements expressing an opposition so, it is an adversative conjunction.

  1. ILLATIVE CONJUNCTION
Observe the following sentences:-
  1. It is time to take tea; so let is go home.
  2. He was at fault therefore he was scolded.
  3. You must take rest, for your unwell.
Each conjunction in bold letters joins two statements expressing an  interence or illation so, it is an illative conjunction.
